You may have seen funeral director Kaiora Tipene in the TVNZ and Netflix hit show The Casketeers, in which Kaiora and husband Francis are filmed running their funeral home Tipene Funerals in Onehunga, Auckland.
In 2009 Kaiora had a miscarriage after she already had 2 successful pregnancies. Unfortunately, she felt quite unsupported going through this experience and so she lost confidence in seeking support.
With her own TV series Kaiora likes to break down lingering taboos around uncomfortable topics like death and she does so with sensitivity and respect. She knows the importance of talking about difficult issues and hopes to see more dialogue around miscarriage; she feels it should certainly not be hidden.
